Old Ballantruan is produced at the Tomintoul distillery in Speyside as is their peated version, that is distilled from heavily peated barley. It is a whisky that is different from the style usually associated with its region, as it is peated at 55 ppm. It has been aged in old bourbon casks and hogshead casks containing sherry.
Nose: Soft spices and rich peat note. Very punchy and intense, with some inviting vanilla notes.
Palate: Simple and balanced with a solid delivery of rich peat smoke and hints of black pepper.
Finish: Intense and spicy with a crescendo of wood smoke and tar.
